NMC Specialty Hospital, Abu Dhabi
Cardiology
This department provides diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease (non invasive) supported by state-of-the-art facilities for non-invasive diagnostic procedures.

Computerised Stress Testing
Heart disease is easier to detect when the patient is put through graded exercise testing (stress test) than when at rest. This test helps in planning further treatment for patients who have had a heart attack or a bypass surgery. The Stress Test also detects and estimates the risk of cardiac-arrhythmia.

Colour Doppler Echocardiography
Often called an 'echo' or scan of the heart, it is a painless, non-invasive test, without any health hazards. It detects the presence of holes in the heart, obstruction or leakage of heart valves and 'murmur' of the heart in children. It is ideal for pregnant women who cannot be exposed to X-rays.

24 hour Ambulatory Electrocardiographic Monitoring (ECG Holter Monitoring)
It is particularly effective for patients who experience cardiac symptoms while working or sleeping, but are deceptively normal at the physician's clinic. The patient wears a miniature ECG machine for 24 hours and is expected to follow the daily routine of work, except bathing. The ECG's are recorded continuously and the readings analyzed.

Ambulatory Blood Pressure Measurement (ABPM)
ABPM is useful for detecting episodic hypertension, hypotension and for evaluating the efficiency of anti-hypertensive treatment. The patient wears a small inconspicuous monitor that automatically records blood pressure data at frequent intervals during 24 hours. The recorded data is later evaluated with a computer analyzer.

Vascular Colour Doppler
It is a painless, non-invasive, ultrasound test and detects blockage in the peripheral veins and arteries. The blockage may be acute or chronic and may lead to reduced blood supply to the limbs. Patients may feel pain, coolness or disturbed sensation of their limbs when blood circulation is blocked.

Intensive Care unit (ICU)
Patients suffering from a heart attack and those at a high risk state and evolving stage of a heart attack will be admitted to the ICU and will stay under continuous monitoring to receive appropriate treatment.
